Today, this old off ramp from the Hawthorne bridge is used for bicycle and pedestrian traffic only. It was once used to connect the Hawthorne bridge to Harbor Drive as seen in 1974.
The unused ramp below used to carry traffic from the Steel bridge onto eastbound I-84. It was opened in the mid 1970's and the connecting ramp was demolished in 1990. It was closed due to merging and congestion problems.
Grand Ave Viaduct Exit Stub
BELOW: A leg from Grand Avenue, when this was built in 1965, the Mt. Hood freeway was still green lighted. This was to connect northbound traffic to the Mt. Hood freeway. This ramp has disappeared since the viaduct improvements in recent years.
This is a really good short film on Portland's Mt. Hood Fwy that never was.
